What a dental implant is
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. A complete implant has three parts: the implant fixture placed in the bone, the abutment that connects it to the restoration, and the final crown you see.
Main types of implant treatment
Am I a candidate?
Only an exam and 3D imaging can answer this. The dentist looks at bone volume, gum health, your bite and your general health. Some patients need bone grafting or other preparatory procedures first, which can add time and cost.
How treatment works for international patients
- 1Before you travel: online consultation and review of photos or existing X-rays.
- 2First visit: clinical exam and CBCT to confirm the plan.
- 3Placement: the implant is placed, with a temporary if appropriate.
- 4Healing at home: usually several months while the implant integrates.
- 5Second trip: abutment and final crown, bite check and maintenance plan.
Recovery while you travel
Follow the clinic’s instructions on medication, diet and cleaning.
Ask your dentist when it is safe to fly after surgery.

Questions to ask your dentist
- Which implant manufacturer and system will you use?
- Will I need bone grafting, and how would that change the timeline?
- What are the risks in my case, and how are complications handled?
- What does the warranty cover, and for how long?
- What maintenance will I need once I am home?
Dental implant treatment: common questions
How long does dental implant treatment take?
Most cases have two stages: placing the implant and, after several months of healing, fitting the final crown. Bone grafting can add time.
Does dental implant treatment hurt?
The surgery is done with local anesthesia, and sedation may be available. Swelling and tenderness are common during recovery and vary by patient.
Which implant brand is used?
Ask every clinic for the manufacturer and system. Smile 4 Ever Mexico uses Neodent implants, part of the Straumann Group.
Can I get an implant in one trip?
Sometimes a temporary tooth can be placed the same week, but the final crown usually needs a second trip after healing.
What can affect healing?
Some medical conditions, smoking and low bone volume can affect healing. Tell the dentist about your health and medications before treatment.
